Myths

Myth: You only need the dentist when something hurts

No pain, no problem: it sounds sensible. It is also how small cavities become root canals.

Why people believe it

Teeth are quiet sufferers. Decay and gum disease progress for months or years without hurting. If pain is your only alarm system, everything feels fine right up until it doesn't.

The truth

By the time a tooth hurts, the problem is usually advanced. A cavity that could have been a simple filling now needs a root canal. Gum disease that a cleaning could have stopped now threatens the bone. Regular check-ups catch these while they are small.

What to do instead

Visit on a schedule, not on a symptom. Prevention is consistently simpler and less costly than repair, and considerably more comfortable.
