Myths

Myth: Root canals are extremely painful

Say “root canal” at a dinner table and someone will wince. Few dental procedures carry a darker reputation.

Why people believe it

The fear is inherited. A generation ago, anaesthesia options were cruder and technique was slower. Stories from that era became family folklore, and the folklore outlived the reality. The pain people remember is usually the infected tooth before treatment, not the treatment itself.

The truth

Modern dentistry offers effective anaesthesia options, making root canals relatively comfortable. The procedure exists to remove infected pulp, the very thing causing your pain. Advanced techniques like rotary and microscopic endodontics make treatment faster and more precise than ever.

What to do instead

If a tooth throbs, don't wait for the pain to teach you dentistry. Delaying a needed root canal lets infection spread and can cost you the tooth. Early treatment is calmer, quicker, and saves what you were born with.
